Scope:This SAE Standard specifies the essential dimensional features of R, B, and M rectangular piston ring types with narrow ring width.MIL-STD-498, MILITARY STANDARD: SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT AND DOCUMENTATION (05 DEC 1994) [SUPERSEDING MIL-STD-2167A, DOD-STD-7935A & DOD-STD-1703] [S/S BY IEEE/EIA 12207.0, IEEE/EIA 12207.1 & IEEE/EIA 12207.2]., The purpose of this standard is to establish uniform requirements for softwaredevelopment and documentation. This standard merges DOD-STD-2167A and DOD-STD-7935A to define a set of activitiesand documentation suitable for the development of both weapon systems and AutomatedInformation Systems. A conversion guide from these standards to MIL-STD-498 is provided inAppendix I. Other changes include improved compatibility with incremental and evolutionarydevelopment models; improved compatibility with non-hierarchical design methods; improvedcompatibility with computer-aided software engineering (CASE) tools; alternatives to, and moreflexibility in, preparing documents; clearer requirements for incorporating reusable software;introduction of software management indicators; added emphasis on software supportability; andimproved links to systems engineering. This standard supersedes DOD-STD-2167A, DOD-STD-7935A, and DOD-STD-1703 (NS).
